Traveling with friends can be an incredible experience, but it's important to be prepared for anything. By following these tips, you can ensure that your next vacation is one for the books! And who knows, maybe you'll even make some new friends along the way.

Benefits

One of the best things about vacationing with friends is that you always have someone to rely on. Whether you need a helping hand with directions, want someone to take a picture of you in front of a beautiful landmark, or simply need emotional support after a long day of exploring, friends are always there for you.

Another great thing about traveling with friends is that you can split the cost of accommodations, transportation, and activities. This can be a huge financial help, especially if you're planning a trip to an expensive destination.

Challenges

No relationship is perfect and vacations are no exception. One challenge you may face is different interests and activity levels. For example, one friend may want to spend the day lounging on the beach while another friend may want to go hiking. This can be frustrating, but it's important to remember that friends are supposed to help you relax and have fun, not stress you out. If you find yourself in this situation, try to compromise by planning some activities together and then giving each person some time to do their own thing.

Tips

If you want to plan a vacation with friends, there are a few things you should keep in mind.

1.  Travel styles and desired activities: Make sure that everyone is on the same page in terms of what they're looking for. If some friends want to relax on the beach while others want to hike every day, it might be tough to find a destination that satisfies everyone. It's important to discuss what each person wants to do before booking anything.

2. Budget: Another thing to keep in mind is the budget. When you're planning a trip with friends, it's important to make sure that everyone is comfortable with the price range. No one wants to be surprised by hidden costs or feel like they can't afford to do anything. Have a conversation about what everyone is comfortable spending before making any bookings.

Decide on a system for splitting costs and keeping track of expenses. We recommend Splitwise or Settle Up.

3. Selecting a group leader:  It can also be helpful to establish a group leader or decision-maker to help keep the planning process organized. You can select more leaders, for example, based on days (leader for day 1, day 2,...), based on activities (leader for hiking, leader for nightlife activities,...), or based on the big planning items (leader for accommodation, leader for car rental and drivers,...).

4. Packing: Everyone in the group is responsible for packing their essentials however some destinations have unique essentials (special medicine, a special type of shoes,...) and there are items you don't need 10 of (for example, a bug repellent, a deck of cards, a hair dryer).

5. Communication: Make a group chat or WhatsApp to stay in touch and make plans. This is as useful before the trip as during and after. We traveled in a group of 10 and rented 3 cars, so it was crucial to keep communicating during the days. We kept sending photos to each other in the chat. After the vacation group chat was important to collect all the links for the photos (and reminders for everyone to upload them). Also if anyone found an unknown object in their luggage, they could post an image in the chat, and the owner would find it there.

6. Be respectful of each other's schedules and personal space: Before the trip, have a conversation with your friends about what everyone's expectations are and what they want to get out of the trip. This will help you avoid any misunderstandings or conflicts.

Moreover, plan some alone time into the itinerary: Build in some time for everyone to do their own thing, whether it's exploring on their own or just taking a nap.

7. Respect sleeping habits: If someone wants to sleep in, be considerate and try to keep noise to a minimum.

8. Have fun: Most importantly, have fun and enjoy each other's company!
